Hey, if you are scared of holiness…that’s ok.
Just don’t stay that way. Let’s be honest, that’s the whole deal with seeking a set apart, godly life anyway—the art of NOT staying the same. Our Holy Father is constantly trying to rescue us from boredom and deliver us from the doldrums, but we aren’t willing to let go of all that provides immediate, albeit, false security. To complete the equation, if you want to be holy and you are determined to see God in it, you must accept the hard facts of change.
But…I fear change.
And it’s the fear that keeps us here. Where is here…well, right here…where we refuse to let go and start to grow. That’s the only place we want to be comfortable at. But if desperation and Scripture get together for an all-nighter and invite faith along for the ride, your spiritual yard is gonna have tire tracks in it. Maybe not the best analogy…. Danger. Intrigue. The unknown. The barely safe. The reckless. These terms betoken those who set out on a voyage destined for the deeper life in Christ.
Point is: we all fear this somewhere. We all want to be in control.
To follow. To die. To take up a cross. This means you are playing in His world now. A walk of faith is one of facing fears with the ammunition of Biblical truth. To see that He has provided a way, not only for salvation and identification, but for Spirit-filled growth and maturation. Not to mention the manna on your plate, the sandals on your feet, and the heavenly protection shot from the Throne like a pillar of cloud or spire of fire. Launch. AND HE WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU. Launch. The flipside of constant fear and discomfort, halting between two opinions, in utter, unfettered freedom to journey into things we never could even dream of before.
There is a quality ignition to every man or woman who says to-heck-with-it and launches out in trusting Scripture and the character of Jesus to get the job done. Completing what He has already begun. He is The Lord God and He changes NOT. You will fall seven times and rise again, His march and cadence are consistent still. You flounder, succumb to knee-shaking terror as the night waxes demonic…His eyes only grow brighter with flame, His sword only becomes sharper. You will feel the “old man” sneak up on you from the recesses of your past, swearing he lives still; Jesus is there always to stick a present dagger of truth into the heart of sin. There is no shade of turning in Him. Trust him withal. He has the eternal skills to literally pay your bills.
So launch. What are you waiting for? Will He treat you as He did David or Moses or Gideon or Noah or Abraham or Jacob or Mary or Joseph or Paul or Timothy??? Of course He will; provide for you, He most certainly will. Because, either His provision for those of the hall of faith was real and well-documented or the Bible is a grand book of go-nowhere stories. Take it as your manual, as your fuel and LAUNCH!
“For He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of POWER, LOVE, & a SOUND MIND.”—2 Timmy 1:7
