What would a New Wineskin Look Like?
It would look like a resurgence of Christ’s love in the church. Unity in the brethren. Love in place of division. A return to the joy of the Lord. The Spirit moving freely and given a seat in our congregations. Oh that we would make time for the One in whom we believe. Revolutionary faith. Faith to trust Jesus enough to change brothers who may be incomplete, immature, mean, narrow, or off-base. Faith to trust God to provide. Faith to trust God to guide. Faith to watch the Holy Spirit move in supernatural ways again. The world needs this. Help our unbelief!
A New Wineskin would look like playing offense and not just defense. Not being afraid to ask God what He wants. And all-prayer, any prayer, every prayer. If anything it would resemble A RETURN TO INTIMACY WITH GOD. Not just knowing about Him, but KNOWING Him…spending enough time waiting in silent places to know what His Voice sounds like. To PRAY as much or more than we study. That the Word would become sharper, dividing even finer lines in us. That we could exit our closets and proclaim, “Thus sayeth the Lord!”
Love. Unity. Intimacy. Prayer. Reignited worship. Firey Bible Preaching, led by the Spirit. Faith. Faith. Revolutionary Faith.
And it might also look something like Acts. Share. Share. From house to house with fire and joy. Given to the Apostles’ teaching…living the New Testament, early Church. Eating together. Living together. Gardening together. Praying together. Fasting together. Witnessing together. Loving the lost…together. Singing in the Spirit. Praying in the Spirit. Moving in the Spirit. Together.
And togetherness means we will have to NOT be right about everything. It may also mean, when we are “right,” we still may need to keep our mouths shut and pray.
Oh yeah, this fabled New Wineskin, it would be given to the gifts—fraught with them. A no-fear, but not cavalier, exhibition of the Spirit delving out power and gifting to His members for the building up of the Body AND a firmer witness to skeptics, cold-hearts, backsliders, prodigals, and unbelievers. People want to see that ordinary people can be extraordinary through Christ by His Spirit.
It would be…given to the Spirit. Relentlessly gifted and full of belief. Administrating in the Spirit. Leading in the Spirit. Teaching in the Spirit. Prophesying, with words of wisdom and knowledge, hospitality, miracles, tongues, interpretations, evangelizing, dreams, visions, sending out, going out…. Revolutionary Faith. Revolutionary Mercy. Revolutionary Discernment. And sweet prayer, offered as much as a joyful heart could be allowed to speak.
If these would abound, in a New Wineskin, the New Wine of the Gospel could swell in us and pour out on a dry and thirsty world. Lord, let us not burst through rigidity, hardness, or stubbornness. Pour liberally into us. Change us where we grow dangerously close to Pharisees. Cleanse our vessel. Use the water of the Word and the oil of the Holy Ghost. And fill, fill, fill!
