Everything changes. Blessed are the flexible for they won’t be broken. How far down the rabbit hole are we willing to go? Are we really sold out, in like Flynn? If we are, if we stay Spirit-fired and tried and true, will we let anything stop us? I mean, I know it’s a silly old sports analogy that I heard in high school, but are we willing to leave it all on the track, on the field?
And, as my buddy Oswald Chambers, has said, “Are we willing to obey God when it costs OTHER PEOPLE?” Not just us. Like the sucking tornado of obedience that consumes local or regional areas and causes shake-up and destruction in all lives within a five-mile radius. I don’t know if that is a perfect analogy, but I have seen this happening around us. Revolutionary Faith! Faith that straps people to a chair, pulls their eyelids open, and causes them to have to stare straight into what God is doing in YOUR life. Ok, again, maybe not the best way of saying it, a little creepy and cult-like, but you get the idea.
Do you live your life of faith like this? No holds barred? Dangerous? Anti-conservative? Sorry dad. But really! Do we? The, “I’m jumping off this cliff and I’m taking you with me,” kind of faith. Aren’t we SUPPOSED to effect the world around us like this? Polycarp did. Luther did. Müller surely did. Bonhoeffer. Hudson Taylor. Jonathan Goforth. Andrew Murray. Extraordinary lives of faith that wrought extraordinary examples and results in the families and people around them.
But there is a dark side?
The rational mind.
Yeah, we all know it. This is impossible. This can’t work. Everyone will quit and turn the backs. I will be made a fraud. I will dishonor my God. I’m too weak. There’s no way! The only way we will dishonor God is by being disobedient. In the spiritual realm, that is all that really matters. If the thing falls through. If skeptics mock. If disciples turn and follow no more…. HE ALONE WILL HANDLE THE CONSEQUENCES.
So incredibly difficult when you are in the throes of it. But oh, to bring pleasure and glory to my Lord and Savior for sticking out the course, for staying true to the calling. There is really nothing better. He knows our hearts to serve and battle through. We should know that it is all really on Him and His Spirit. This Revolutionary Faith is only revolutionary because it rests on the shoulders of the Christ King Himself.
Sometimes the thrill of championed faith is too good to entertain shrinking back.
If victory costs you everything, what a golden crown shall rest upon your head.
