Day 14: We Need to Blow Up the Death Star
Against impossible odds, a small rebel band of scumdogs and outlaws went up against everything their much more organized enemy could throw at them. They hung on through huge obstacles. They maintained when people said it couldn’t be done. They even stole small victories from the Southern Republic Army by pinpointed attacks and strategic sabotage. But now, at what could seem like the end of all things, the war for our age, they band together with well-plotted plans and just enough pilots and ships to do the job…and THEY NEED TO BLOW UP THE DEATH STAR.
That’s right, a veritable impossibility when you think about it. These freedom-fighters weren’t and aren’t probably the “right” people for the job; more than half of them had no idea what they were getting into when they signed up. They were handed an old gun, not enough ammunition, mismatched boots and pants, a broken speeder or out-of-date fighter and told to go get in the fight. Oh, and try NOT to die out there!
But, you know, these nomadic aliens from the far reaches of the outer rim, the most remotest places…they kinda banded together. And they are “kinda” holding their own. Didn’t seem possible, still doesn’t…especially in the face of Lord Vader and a streamlined, regimented army of Stormtroopers. But maybe, just maybe…with a little Spirit Force, they can destroy the worst weapon evil has ever devised, in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
Now picture Hoth and the Death Star sequence all at the same time. They need the snow to run. They need the whiteout to form cover. When the temperatures drop and speeders and droids freeze up in the cold. These rebel snow scouts have the jump on attacking that dreaded space station. What if they had held Hoth and the Rebellion attacked from there. What if? What if!
Can they do it? Will they hold out? Will some perish for lack of belief? Will some freeze and fall away…?
I don’t know, sounds like all they need is snow…and then they will blow that thing to smithereens.
