Fasting With Intent

Fasting With Intent

I have said before that many times I/we fast for specific reasons of desperation. As if, sometimes, we are saying to the Lord, “I would give of anything in my life to see the tide turn.” The prophet Joel and King Jehoshaphat both called their people to fasting in a time a dire national emergency. Morally, militarily…much was amiss, much was a mess.

Heading into our next fast, a four-day fist-a-cuffs of prayer and supplication, I too want to fast with purpose—ON PURPOSE. Why God gives us weapons to wield like this, I will never know. But we would be stupid not to use them.

So, I’m entering into this next fast petitioning a Holy & Mighty God for serious Revival in the church. That we would wake up to the catastrophes around us, manning the lifeboats of a ship that has already capsized. Let’s be intentional about all this. As we fast, to speak as the prophet Daniel spoke…WE HAVE SINNED…WE HAVE DONE INIQUITY…WE HAVE TRANSGRESSED AGAINST YOUR WAYS. WE have not obeyed where we know we should.
Note the godly man’s usage of the pronoun WE.

And fasting, what a great time to rally the troops! What a great time to decide enough is enough. Discomfort breeds brokenness and crying out to the Holy One for help. We CAN’T save ourselves. We CAN’T manufacture an awakening that will rattle dead corpses, but He can. So let’s pray, let’s FAST for Revival! Purposeful, intentional.

When in doubt. When we are breaking down. When our flesh flushes out carnality as a debilitating toxin and Jesus starts to purify…these are crucial times to entreat heaven for what we may not have even saw the need for before. When we cringe with hunger and faint a bit through weakness in our members, we must remember that when we are weak, He is strong. And when we are really weak, HE IS REALLY STRONG. Paradoxical, I know. But our experience sees this as a blaring truth too good NOT to be experienced.

So let us be specific in our open requests. Lord, we need more of You! Lord, help us pray more fervently”. Master, we are desperate…we want to be obedient…but we have so much sin! Please, don’t let us fall back into the choking cares of the world any longer…Hallelujah, set us free!

And when we allow for God to set us free from the confines of human need, He can enter into the separation and build a new man. Let Him in! Give Him a chance. For I fear, if we don’t intentionally prayer and seek revival with all of our hearts, we risk never being willing ever again to DO HARD THINGS for the Kingdom and for His Glory…and for the lost.

*won’t you consider praying and fasting with us November 25-28.
