Sin separates us from God…it alienates us. God gave a solution to Israel.
LEVITICUS 23: Holy convocation. A day of Atonement. And fasting. A solemn day to deal with sin, to have it blotted out. No work, a sabbath of complete rest. The 9th through the 10th.
The High Priest was up to bat on the Day of Atonement. After a week or more of prep work and purifying himself and reading the Torah, he would prepare for no less than a 43-step work process. This busy day included a least five bathings, several wardrobe changes, his only annual entrance into the Holy of Holies, and the open speaking of the name of YHVH…at which the people would fall prostrate. There was much blood-sprinkling, the average morning and evening sacrifice, the lot of the two goats, and much more. All this to pronounce the nation of Israel clean of its sins.
Reading: HEBREWS 9:11-14: “But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Hebrews 9:11-14 KJV)
HEBREWS 7:24-27, HEBREWS 8:1-2
Because He was both God and Man, He could operate as both Priest and Sacrifice
What did God require? A SACRIFICE. It’s always a sacrifice.
Somewhere in there, with all of us, Jewish or Christian or not, we must deal with atonement. How do you get right with God???
Leviticus 17:11—Life is in the blood.
Leviticus 16—Aaron’s sons died. God says you can’t come into My Presence by your way or ways…you have to come by My way.
You have to do this My way, or you will indeed die.
THE JEWISH PEOPLE HAD TO DO IT THROUGH THE HIGH PRIEST.
YESHUA said. I am the WAY, the TRUTH, the LIFE. Mediator. Umpire. A Daysman.
Look on the snake on the stick…and live.
The High Priest would pray for his own sin when he sprinkled the mercy seat. Bull for himself. Goat for Yahweh, for the people Israel. And the scapegoat. Transferral. Then the scapegoat was led out into the wilderness with a red thread tied to his horn. By the time they were ready to shove this goat backwards off a cliff, the red thread—if the nations sins were forgiven—miraculously turned white.
One word on Yom Kippur: CLEANSING.
In the future, God will cleanse the nation of Israel (Ezekiel 36). He will also give them a new relationship with Himself (Zechariah 13:1). And Jeremiah 31—NEW Covenant with the Jewish people. I put My Law within them, and it will be written on their hearts. They will ALL know the Lord. I will forgive their iniquity and remember their sins no more.
The Passover Lamb was sacrificed once for all time. Isaiah 53—will be recognized from a Jewish perspective. For every Jew and Gentile, Yom Kippur can be real for us today. Based on the pure sacrifice…and the perfection of a Great High Priest.
Yochanan the Immerser: Behold the Lamb of God, Who has taken away the sins of the WORLD. “We have found the Messiah,” said the disciples.
John 6: What must we do to do the works of God? V. 29—”That you believe in Him Whom God has sent.”
God offers us peace. Forgiveness. Acceptance. Hope. Assurance. Fulfillment. Purpose. Meaning. Certainty.
John 1:12—we must believe and receive Him.
YOM KIPPUR IS A MOST DECISIVE HOLIDAY: we should all KNOW where we are at with God after we have been through our Yom Kippur.
In the Prophetic Timeline, the foot of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah will step down…and all deciding will be done. IT. IS. FINISHED.
Prophetically, on God’s eternal timeline, mapped out in Leviticus 23, Yom Kippur then comes at the end of the 10 Days of Awe. This would place it right at the end of the Tribulation when the Messiah is prophesied by Zechariah to step His feet down on the Mt. of Olives (14:3-4). It is very interesting and important that Zechariah mentions His feet because this prophet also was famous for saying that, “They will look on Me, the One they have pierced….” His feet were indeed pierced along with His hands and His side.
On that Day of eternal Atonement, all Israel will gaze steadfastly on the One Whom they and their forefathers have pierced and see the marks of piercing and slaughter upon Him, and also officiating as Great High Priest. It will then be the final, closing act for all Israel, as a nation, to be forgiven for their sins. For all Israel will be saved.
Bravo! Come quickly, Lord Jesus.
