The Problem of Pain…and Suffering
Job Chapter 2-3
Are you still holding to your integrity? Job DID. Why can’t we??!! And we have the Holy Spirit, the entire Old Testament and the new testimony of Jesus Christ…and Revelation!
LORD, LET MORE IN THIS DAY SEEK TO “MAINTAIN INTEGRITY”—definition please: One of the lost and dying terms of the generation: chivalry, gallantry, poise, gentleman (ness), loyalty, etc.
1 : firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values : incorruptibility
2 : an unimpaired condition : soundness
3 : the quality or state of being complete or undivided : completeness
synonyms see honesty
The Lord has been saying to me, “Holdfast the line.” And here, holdfast integrity. Do not weary in well doing…. No matter what. No matter what.
Job’s wife…in pain as well. Maybe we should give her a bit of a break here…those were her kids and that was her livelihood too.
“Shall we except good from the LORD and not adversity?”>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
There are whole, terrible doctrines based on this verse, or who should be taught by this verse. When was the last time you saw a TV evangelist or money preacher preach or teach out of Job?
WE KNOW THAT GOD IS GOOD….
Many thousands have become atheists or agnostics or skeptics on this line.
There can’t be Good without Evil. There must be a moral law that divides between right and wrong. ERGO, there must be a moral Law Giver….
APOLOGETICS: see here the likes of Ravi Zacharias, C.S. Lewis, Norman Giesler, etc. Logic. Look into it.
His friends don’t say anything for seven days…maybe they should have stayed that way. “If you cant improve the silence by breaking it, then don’t break it.”
Then they start in: there must be hidden sin…there must be hypocrisy…. It’s your fault your kids are dead.
We always ask, in these situations, is there sin in my life? What did I do wrong? I must have screwed up somewhere? I am a sinner indeed….
Then Bildad says, “It was sin in your kids lives!” as if to say, this stuff doesn’t happen to REALLY good people. This situation just gets worse and worse and worse.
Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him…. Do any of the circumstances in my life change the fact that God is God and nothing of His love and sovereignty ever changes? Here, Job is banking on the character of God.
At the end of the day, there are indeed irreconcilable things we all carry…in faith…maybe our whole lives…to someday lay them down on the shores of glory. THAT WILL BE THE DAY. There must be a way to press on, to push through. And some days, we have to remember that this life is temporary and eternity is, well, quite a bit longer.
When you are broken beyond counsel…underneath are the everlasting arms.
