Stretch Those Tent Pegs: the NEW-NEW UPDATE!

Seeing as how we must not lose hope and certainly NOT grow weary in well-doing….I wanted to update everyone out there in cyberspace and real space, and let ya’ll know just what is shaking in the Tribe of Judah Ministries, Calvary Chapel of Iron River, and HeBrews Coffee & Music. I’m incredibly proud of the ministries the Lord has launched in our neck of the north woods and even more proud of the brothers and sisters who God has employed to labor in our wonderfully white fields of harvest.

FULL THROTTLE FREEDOM: this is our no-holds-barred prison ministry led by the fearless Cain Kellerman and now backed up by our head deacon Keith Smith. Several years ago, Cain came to us from Minnesota and has always had a heart for the down and out and the “captives” in this world. In the last two years, Cain barely pushed on a couple possible doors in this area of ministry in the U.P., and low and behold more than a dozen flew open and have continued, rather relentlessly, to fly open ever since. Cain and Keith are now able to minister full-time in the local jail system and the nearest prison, with several other prisons waiting in the wings for the ministry to grow. And oh how God has provided…seriously awesome to watch.

INTERPOSE PRODUCTIONS, Recording Studio: our very own Seth Waters started with a vision of a full-functioning recording studio in our bell tower a few years ago and that has now exploded into an all-week, every week venture which provides quality recordings as a regional business and as a serious ministry to worship teams, missioning bands, and solo artists. I have to say that Seth has exceeded, with the hand of Yahweh on him, all expectations for what could be done here in the Upper Peninsula. We are brimming with excitement and hope for what the future brings for the studio.

BROTHERS & SISTERS HOUSES: our brothers and sisters houses have been around for a while, yet it seems the proper structure and discipleship are now being put into place. With the help of John Higgins, and him sharing the structure of the Shiloh House ministries, we have landed on a two-week entry period and discipleship program for any new recruits or homeless folks that come to us. This gives ANYONE a chance at salvation and a life with the Lord, even the “least of these.” This ministry is led by Bernie & Raina Connors, with the assistance of Jalissa Haugen and Keith Smith…mostly because they also live in the houses.

COMMUNAL GARDEN, aka “Frozen Dirt”
Last summer, Benjamin Garcia, with the help of a few others, started a small garden on our three lots of empty grass behind our church. It pulled in a lot of green beans, three huge zucchini, two good pumpkins, a little bit of broccoli, and countless tomatoes. This year, we tripled the size and are adding several staple foods with the hopes of storing and canning a good amount of fresh veggies through next winter. We also have plans for a produce stand and a greenhouse down the road. Onward Benjamin; it’s not every day you see a pirate running a garden!

Our school is in its fourth full year and going strong. We have always stressed quality over quantity and his year we have added a couple formidable classes with Self-Confrontation (biblical discipleship) and an Old Testament Survey Class, along with a women’s character Study through the Bible. Captained by Josh (yours truly) & Grace Brindle, the School of Discipleship has been a backbone for growth in all our ministries and our church. Prayerfully, God will continue to add more students as we grow.

Seth Waters and his fiancé, Carrie got a hair-brained idea that our church needed a new youth group for area kids, the old one being out of commission for the last few years due to lack of interest. So, just two weeks ago, they launched out with vision and conformation and we already have eight kids or so from the local high school who are VERY excited about having their own entry point into ministry and the church. Bring it on!

The “Old Reliable” of all our ministries, originally opened up by my wife and I. The coffee shop is now under new management. Our good buddies Alex (master barista) & Riley (queen or art) Fields now hold the keys to the “java castle” which acts as a great ministry hub for the school, Bible studies, concerts, worship, morning and evening prayer, movie nights, game nights, and a host of other things. Thank you Lord for all that You have done through HeBrews.

And on top of all of these branches of the ministry, we have our irons in the fire for a non-profit clothing store, an outfitter, and a multi-sport winter festival including a dog sled race! The sky is the limit. We really want to alter our community for Jesus.

I’m always very blown away by the fact that all of these ministries are ran and served by approximately 15 people…15, awesome, hard-working, usually right-hearted and loving people who, for the joy set before them, are zealous for good works and enjoy watching God move. These people live by faith and share life together. They pray together. They struggle together. These are my brothers and sisters. These are Revival people!

Thank you so much for the update. I pray for your minitries often and couldn’t think of any people I would rather serve with than the ones God has put in my path. I am so glad he did the choosing, cause seriously, you all scated the daylights out of me the first time! Lol If I hadn’t known Seth I probably would have avoided getting to know you. I love how God makes us cross those boundaries and sm so thankful to know the Tribe and Grace Brindle. You are who I wanna be like when I grow up! God’s blessings on your ministry. If I can help from my little ‘neck of the woods’ (seriously what does that mean anyway? Lol) let me know. • Laura says:

We would love to visit and/or host I we would love to visit or host tribe visitors. I will keep in touch and try to get a date on the calendar. Right now I am pretty booked between church commitments, mountain of praise food, grad parties planning and food, and a wedding or two planning/food. What a God, eh?!? Lol
